Linnea Quigley

If you were to look up the title of 80's horror scream queen, just a notch below Jamie Lee Curtis you'd be almost certain to find Linnea Quigley, who from the moment she stepped onscreen to this very day remains one of the all time queens of B-movie horror. Linnea Barbara Quigley was born in Davenport, Iowa on May 27, 1958 to Heath and Dorothy Quigley, a chiropractor and housewife respectively. Leading as normal a life as anyone can in Iowa, she moved with her family to Los Angeles in the late 70's, where she began what would be a rather productive acting career. Starting out with a toothpaste commercial, she soon made her film debut in the porn mockumentary Auditions in 1978. As would become the norm she began taking roles that would feature her in various states of undress in such 'classics' as Fairy Tales (1979), Don't Go Near the Park (1981) and Psycho from Texas (1982). She gained some attention in small roles in two Cheech and Chong movies, Nice Dreams and Still Smokin', before gaining a rather high profile role as a murder victim impaled on a pair of deer antlers in the nude in the controversial Silent Night, Deadly Night in 1984. 1985 brought the role that would bring Linnea the most notoriety as Trash in Dan O'Bannon's zombie classic Return of the Living Dead. After the first actress hired for the part turned the role down because of the required wardrobe (i.e. nothing), Linnea won the part because she had little compunction about spending a good chunk of the movie in the buff. The movie's success solidified her place in the horror lexicon as one of the great Scream Queen's, a title that she would continue to wear with pride. She would continue to rule the 80's B-movie horror circuit in such films as Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama, Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and her oft-remembered part from Night of the Demons where she gets up close and personal with a tube of lipstick (all film in 1988). In 1990 Quigley married special makeup effects artist Steve Johnson, but the relationship was short-lived and soon resulted in divorce. In the early 90's she briefly considered going into the LAPD, even going so far as to pass their written test, but after some consideration felt that she'd be better suited towards making movies. In 2001 she moved to Florida to be close to her parents as well as to get a change in scenery from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood. As of today Linnea remains busy in the B-movie horror market, and although most of the movies she makes go directly to video, little has kept her from working. When not making movies, she appears at horror conventions, remains an active animal rights activist and spokesmodel for PETA, and has authored two books on her life in the B-movie circuit, "Bio & Chainsaw" and "I'm Screaming As Fast As I Can." Although far from her moment in the spotlight as Trash, the impact she made on horror lives to this day. A Fact about Quigley Given that nearly 90% of her screentime in Return of the Living Dead was spent wearing nothing more than a pair of leg-warmers, a special prosthetic crotch-piece had to be made to prevent the movie from receiving an X rating.
