Born in Weedon, England to Irish parents, Leo G. Carroll was a star on stage in England and later Broadway before making his way to Hollywood in 1934. He was a favorite actor of director Alfred Hitchcock who used him in Rebecca, Suspicion, Strangers on a Train, North by Northwest and as the villainous “Dr. Murchison” in Spellbound. TV fans will remember his as “Alexander Waverly” on the popular 1960s TV series The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and its spin-off The Girl from U.N.C.L.E..
