Paul Fix

No fan of 1950s era TV westerns could fail to identify actor Paul Fix, who played sheriff “Micah Torrance” on the Chuck Conners TV series The Rifleman. Although he spent most of career in westerns both on film and in television, Fix was no cowboy, having been born in Dobbs Ferry, New York. The sun of a brewery owner, his career began in touring stock companies, and his early Hollywood days were in strictly low-budget two-reelers. When he helped fellow two-reeler star John Wayne develop his acting ability, the two developed a life-long friendship, and Fix appeared in 27 films of Wayne’s films including She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, The Fighting Kentuckian, and Back to Bataan. A frequent guest star on TV shows such as Gunsmoke, The Virginian, and Bonanza, Fix also had connections to a number of TV sci-fi shows, as well. Star Trek fans will recognize him as the Enterprise’s pre-Dr. McCoy ship’s doctor “Dr. Mark Piper,” in the original pilot “Where No Man has Gone Before,” which starred Jeffrey Hunter. He had a reoccurring role as “Dr. Brulle” in Irwin Allen’s Land of the Giants, and one of his final TV appearances was as "Commander Kronus" on Battlestar Galactica in the episode: “Take The Celestra.”
