Bruce Davison took to heart the career advice he received from director Robert Aldrich, “Kid, be a character actor. Hero or villain, character actors always work.” Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised just outside Philadelphia, Davison attended Penn State University where he studied art before switching his major to theatre. His early film work quickly drew him attention with roles such as “Willard Stiles” in the 1971 film Williard. However, it took another two decades for the accolades to start pouring in. In 1991, he won a Golden Globe, National Society of Film Critics Award, Independent Spirit Award, and New York Film Critics Circle Award, and received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in the film Longtime Companion. In 1998, he received an Emmy nomination for his TV guest appearance on Touched by an Angel. Davison’s other films include Crimes of Passion, Paulie, and X-Men.
